ICON SIMPLY “SUCKS” NEWSPAPER IMAGES
INTO ONLINE ALBUMS

Labor-saving innovation makes photo uploads possible
with absolutely no technical knowledge
By Roger McManus
For the latest “Gee-Whiz” technology in the newspaper/Internet scene, MyNewsPhotos.com may have won the prize.  It is a world where different operating systems – and different versions of operating systems – exist side by side.  It is a place where knowing how FTP works – and getting it to work flawlessly – is sometimes, well, a challenge.

So, along comes MyNewsPhotos.com with a simple icon that sits on the computer desktop.  The OneStep Uploader is a small button never even gets clicked.  The user (usually the photographer) simply offloads images from his or her camera to a named folder on the hard drive.   The next (and final) step is to drag that folder to the aforementioned icon and let go.   And, go take more pictures – because the computer does the rest!

The upload time, of course, depends on the number of pictures, the file size of each, the line speed of the connection and other broadband variables.  The human time is under one minute.

Developed for MyNewsPhotos by an undisclosed European software company, the OneStep Uploader was developed, according to MyNewsPhotos president Allen Showalter, “to make our unique position in the market stunningly clear.  No one can beat us on simplicity of operation.”

“No one has too much time in today’s newspapers – and learning new software is an unnecessary challenge – so we went out to create a system that makes it impossible for the operator to make a mistake.”

As if that weren’t enough, the newspaper may request a different icon for every photographer.  During the uploading process each image is automatically coded with the appropriate photo credit for the photographer.

Optionally, a photographer may add key words into a specific file that makes any photo gallery searchable.

All of this is available at no cost to participating newspapers.  Reprints sold by the paper – and professionally printed by MyNewsPhotos – generate the necessary revenue to fund the system and even throw off substantial incremental income to the newspaper.

Publishers with interest in obtaining more information should contact Allen Showalter (allen@mynewsphotos.com) or call him (540-478-5556).

Easy Online Photo Reprints Get Even Easier

Harrisonburg, VA- Life got easier this week at newspapers all over the country.  Leading newspapers that upload digital photos to online galleries got a big boost in productivity.

Offering readers photo reprints online was always a good business decision but there was a problem; uploading was laborious.

 That has changed.

MyNewsPhotos.com in Virginia has created a "One Step Uploader" It doesn't look impressive. Just a little icon on a computer desk top that says "Drop Photos Here." But it is the tip of a powerful iceberg. One thrilled user, Erin Pence of Brown Publishing said "I'm seriously loving the uploader! I'm not kidding when I say it cuts my reprint work time from 2 hours to 45 seconds."  Heather Jacobson of the Galesville Republican said "The new uploader is really nifty!"

Looking behind the little desk top button it where things get really impressive. Every newspaper gets its own branded web gallery. The images are searchable by keywords. The software keeps track of visitors album by album. There are various reports that will keep even the most curious number cruncher delighted for hours. The readers enjoy a shopping cart experience that is super clean and efficient. Perhaps best of all, MNP pays the newspaper about 60% of all the revenue generated on the site with no setup charges or monthly fees.

Allen Showalter of MyNewsPhotos explains "We set out nearly a year ago to write the first software ever designed from the start to serve the needs of newspapers who want to offer photo reprints online. We packed it full of features that no one else has and then topped it off with the One Step Uploader."  He went on to say "Now that we are an approved PAGE vendor we look forward to partnering with their members and working with them to improve the new software even more."

Newspaper Pages that Last a Lifetime and Generate Added Revenue for the Paper

MyNewsPhotos announces a new product that makes that special event permanent and generates added Revenue for the paper! Readers of their local newspaper who are featured in articles always want copies. But, sadly, those pages yellow, crack and tear.

Such is the nature of newsprint.
Now any newspaper may offer readers the opportunity to purchase full page reprints of
any page custom printed using archival quality media and inks. This printing process
produces a true museum quality product, guaranteed to last well beyond the lives of the
subjects they portray. This technique is used to make reprints in various sizes as well as
stretched canvas print. Currently, this service is available only to newspapers who they
partner with MyNewsPhotos in the traditional Photo Gallery or new API service.
Revenue is shared when sales are made; newspapers typically receive 45-60% of the
retail order.
Technically the process is uncomplicated for the papers. They place links on their home
page connecting to the MyNewsPhotos full page reprint ordering page. The reader orders
a full page reprint triggering an email to the paper requesting that the page in pdf format
be sent to MyNewsPhotos’ photo lab. MyNewsPhotos will print the product and ship it
directly to the reader. MyNewsPhotos handles all of the e-commerce elements and sends
the newspaper a check.
The most successful publishers put links to the Full Page Reprint service throughout the
online edition of their pages. This is accomplished by a simple link embedded into each applicable story.
